Why do you want security

Custom vs. Package

False Alarms

Protect the things you cannot replace. Make sure you are educated.
Regardless of  whether you are investing in security for your business or home simply put there are two types of security providers "custom designed" and "packaged."   Then are two types of security equipment " proprietary" and "non-proprietary."    Security providers can offer custom design or packaged systems and they can be either proprietary or non-proprietary    Security tip #1: If it true it probably is!  sounds to good to be Often packaged systems have taken a cookie cutter approach and try to offer a one-size-fits-all.     These systems can have higher false alarm potential as well as increased services fees and offer less security.    Dealers that offer custom designed systems often consider your needs, budget, and offer the best solution.

You can find both custom designed and packaged security dealers that have their proprietary alarm panels so that they cannot be monitored/serviced by other security providers.   Almost all security manufactures allow a security provider to program their alarm panels so they cannot be accessed by other security providers. Security tip #2:
When doing your phone interviews to determine who you would like to have out to your property.  Ask them this question.  "Do I own the system?  After installation, can I have it monitored by another security provider?
If the answer is "no" you probably have to sign an contract for service and may not even own the equipment.   Also be cautious of equipment that is not sold through distribution but dealerships.   Typically, this means the dealer has proprietary software to program and has a dealer "i.d" number in the alarm panel.    Not owning your system, investing in a packaged system, or proprieties equipment can often be a costly mistake if you desire to change or cancel service.   The leverage is not yours but the security dealers.   For example, if you purchased a car from a specific auto manufacture and when you went to fill it up with gas found out that you had to go to the automotive dealer gas stations only.

John Erickson with over 25 years in the security industry can offer design and installation, review of proposals, and/or consulting.    Protecting the things you cannot replace has always been the best approach to providing exceptional security and John's philosophy.
